HKBU School of Business offers 4-year full-time PhD across five main disciplines, namely Accountancy and Law (ACLW), Economics (ECON), Finance and Decision Sciences (FDS), Management (MGNT) and Marketing (MKT). Combining academic rigour with a resolutely international approach, these programmes are ideal for future business leaders or scholars.
PhD students work in close collaboration with world-class faculty as thesis supervisor, but also a mentor and coach to support you in this intellectual journey. Students will have the opportunity to act as a part-time lecturer in the undergraduate programme. This opportunity, available in the final year of study, is an ideal stepping stone for those seeking a career in academia. Financial assistance in various forms is available through the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme.
The Learning Goals (LGs) of the RPG Programmes (MPhil and PhD) are threefold:
- LG1: Students will acquire advanced knowledge and theories in their areas of specialization and research skills requisite for pursuing independent research on their chosen topics.
- LG2: Students will develop the ability to design and conduct original research in their fields of specialization.
- LG3: Students will be able to teach college-level courses in their areas of specialization.

The supervision of postgraduate research students is an integral part of each Department’s activities. These students undertake full-time studies and research towards a PhD degree. Students from Hong Kong, China and overseas countries have been accepted on this programme.
